I have many thoughts on the topic of Native American history and the genocide of these people that goes unrecognized in the history books. In school we were indoctrinated with the belief of manifest destiny without any regard for the Natives which would be displaced. But as President Andrew said, “All preceding experiments for the improvement of the Indians have failed. It seems now to be an established fact that they can not live in contact with a civilized community and prosper.” What I find interesting is the colonization goals included the destruction of land. We still see this going on today with developments taking up more and more of our green space. I’ve always had thought on this, but this article provided more insight on the topic. Though a long read it provides an overview of policy and interactions between Native Americans and the colonizers.
