The article goes into detail on how science is one of the common cultural traits among humanity. Collaboration amongst scientists from all nations and cultures can help advance humanity while at the same time educating the public on age old questions. Though American culture focuses on materialism and capitalism, I wonder what the world would be like if we instead invested on advancing our sciences and understanding of our world. While reading I was reminded of a bit by the late comedian Bill Hicks. Part of Hicks’ stage act was his harsh criticism of American political and military actions, but one line stands out. It is something that resonates deeply within me and hope to see civilization advance to this point…
“Here’s what we can do to change the work, right now, to a better ride. Take all that money we spend on weapons and defense each year, and instead spend it feeding, clothing, and educating the poor of the world, which it would many times over, not one human being excluded, AND WE CAN EXPLORE SPACE TOGETHER, BOTH INNER AND OUTER, FOREVER, IN PEACE.”
Giving this album a listen for maybe the 50th time, 1st time since 2002. I wonder how this album would be received if it was released today. But “Stan” is a classic. Anytime a song title enters the modern lexicon you have to acknowledge the impact of the song. The bass is fine, but Dido…. that sample contrasts perfectly against the story that is told. I might go more in depth later if I can give it a full listen. UPDATE: I can’t…
I decided to give El-P’s older material a listen… specifically his 2007 release “I’ll Sleep When You’re Dead”. To the world’s surprise our good friends Omar Rodriguez-Lopez!!!!!!!! and Cedric Bixlar-Zavala!!!!!!! are featured on the first track. God bless.
Fly, Mordechai!!! New KHRUANGBIN album will drop soon.

May The Universe Smile Upon You
Somewhere in the mountain in the clouds.
8 years ago (!!!!!!!) the world was introduced to The Alabama Shakes and the sonic universe has never been the same since. So grateful for this piece of art.
This was painted by a young up and coming artist from Corpus Christi. I love the depth created and some ideas behind the concept. Hope to see more work from her soon.
“The world that my mind lives in, lives in my mind”. What an amazing experience. Kamasi Washington and his troupe are an incredible act.
Look, there are a few instances in life where we can witness a master at his craft. The speed, complexity, and limb independence with which he displays is greatly appreciated. An inspiration for sure.
For the culture
Such a funky band!!! If you get a chance to listen to these guys, their music is so good and unique. Their message resonates with me plus they perform in tuxedos. I can't wait for their show!
This episode features El-P: one half of Run the Jewels, founder of Def Jux, relentless artist settling into his next act. He's the most popular he's ever been, and the most thoughtful. But as the sunset approached Wilshire, another darkness enveloped our surroundings: the death of the young.
It's all just a ride. It's like being able to look into the past and realize we are all one. Let's take care of each other.
